Austin, TX – Yesterday, 38-year-old Jorge Luis Alvarado Blanco pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife, Minerva Molina Jimenez, who was stabbed to death last March in their north Austin apartment.
The stabbing occurred on March 14, 2023 in the couple’s apartment located in the 11700 block of Metric Boulevard. According to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, police were called to the scene after a 911 caller reported that 30-year-old Jimenez had been stabbed multiple times.
When officers arrived, they found Jimenez with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly after, 911 dispatchers received multiple calls about a man, later identified as Blanco, standing on the West Parmer Lane bridge over Interstate 35.
Callers reported that the man was covered in blood and looked like he wanted to jump off the bridge. Responders were able to locate and detain Blanco, who told them in Spanish “I assassinated my wife,” according to court records.
In May 2023, a Travis County grand jury indicted Blanco for Jimenez’s murder. Then last Friday, nearly a year after the fatal stabbing, Blanco pleaded guilty to the murder charge.
Jimenez and Blanco were married, but little is known publicly about their relationship leading up to the deadly domestic violence incident. According to police, the couple had a history of domestic disturbances, but the March 2023 stabbing was the first physically violent episode.
Domestic violence advocates say that while tragic, the situation follows common patterns in abusive relationships. “Often the first physically violent incident turns deadly,” explained a local advocate.
The Travis County District Attorney’s Office said Blanco is scheduled to be sentenced on March 3. He faces up to life in prison for the murder conviction.
