A 21-year-old Ogden woman received a two-year jail sentence for a drunk driving crash that killed her friend last year. The case highlights the deadly risks of impaired driving in Utah

Crash Details

On March 29, 2025, shortly after midnight, Alyssa Palomo drove a Ford Focus northbound on the 3000 block of Harrison Boulevard.

Impaired by alcohol and THC, she veered into southbound lanes at about 70 mph, colliding head-on with a Ford F-350 pickup truck.

Backseat passenger TyLar Londyn Palmer, also 21, suffered fatal injuries and died at a hospital. The other driver sustained neck and back pain, a jammed finger, and airbag burns.

Victim’s Background

TyLar Palmer, born January 28, 2004, in Layton, Utah, left behind a young daughter, Ciara Isabell Wilkerson, her top priority.

Known for her radiant smile and infectious energy, she worked as a server and cherished family and friends.

A GoFundMe supported funeral costs and her child’s needs, reflecting community grief over the young mother’s loss.

Court Proceedings

Palomo pleaded guilty in November 2025 to second-degree felony automobile homicide and a class A misdemeanor for negligent vehicle operation causing injury.

Her blood-alcohol level measured 0.21 – over four times Utah’s legal limit – post-crash. Before driving away from a party, she ignored a sober designated driver, slammed the car door, and sped off.

Second District Judge Jason Nelson imposed a sentence of 5-15 years in prison, plus probation, but suspended it for two consecutive one-year jail terms, crediting time served.

Broader Context

Utah’s 2024 data shows alcohol-related fatalities rose 19% to 56, with DUI crashes contributing to 20% of total road deaths amid stable or declining trends elsewhere.

Automobile homicide with criminal negligence carries 1-15 years, making this suspended sentence notable.

Weber/Morgan CRASH Team investigated impairment as the key. This tragedy underscores calls for stricter enforcement against refusing sober rides.
