A tragic rope-jumping accident in Brazil has sparked national outrage after a 21-year-old woman died when she was allegedly launched from a bridge without being attached to a safety rope.
Authorities have arrested and charged three instructors with homicide with eventual intent, a Brazilian legal classification used when individuals engage in conduct that carries a known risk of death despite lacking a direct intention to kill.

The victim, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, died on June 13 after falling approximately 40 meters (130 feet) from the abandoned Ponte do Esqueleto, or βSkeleton Bridge,β located between Limeira and CordeirΓ³polis in SΓ£o Paulo state.
Viral video footage shows two instructors lifting Rodrigues de Freitas and throwing her from the bridge while a third man assisted. Moments later, onlookers reportedly realized that no safety cord had been attached.
Police identified the suspects as Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves, 27, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42.
Investigators said the men admitted that the victim was not connected to any safety equipment but claimed they could not remember who was responsible for conducting the final safety check.
Authorities allege that two of the instructors attempted to flee the scene before being apprehended.
The incident has reignited concerns about safety standards in Brazilβs adventure tourism sector. Rope jumping differs from traditional bungee jumping because it uses low-stretch climbing ropes that convert a vertical fall into a pendulum-like swing.
Experts note that strict equipment inspections and multiple safety checks are considered essential before every jump.
Questions have also emerged about the legality of operations at Skeleton Bridge, a disused railway structure that local authorities say has long posed safety risks.
Limeiraβs city government announced plans to pursue legal action against federal authorities, arguing that repeated requests for improved security and access control at the site were ignored.
Friends, family members, and local organizations have paid tribute to Rodrigues de Freitas, remembering her as a cheerful and dedicated young woman.
As investigations continue, the case has become a stark reminder of the potentially fatal consequences of negligence in extreme sports activities.
